After Poland joined the European Union, the Zabrze Steelworks adapted its operations to the restrictive requirements of EU law, especially in the field of environmental protection. The principle of sustainable development, which strikes a balance between the use of resources and their protection for future generations, has become a priority. The plant has implemented the requirements of Best Available Techniques (BAT) in accordance with the IPPC Directive, and ensures compliance with emission and resource consumption standards. The Zabrze Steelworks has carried out a number of modernization and infrastructural measures that allowed it to obtain the necessary environmental permits. We have implemented an approved hazardous waste management program and regularly pay fees for environmental use. In 2007, an Integrated Quality and Environmental Management System was implemented in accordance with PN-ISO 9001 and PN-ISO 14001. The management of the Zabrze Steelworks has developed a Quality and Environmental Policy, which states that production and services must comply with environmental regulations. The goal is to minimize the negative impact of operations on the environment by optimizing production processes, curbing emissions, reducing energy and material consumption, and raising environmental awareness among employees. Environmental measures are systematically monitored and evaluated at all organizational levels. The management of the Zabrze Steelworks is taking continuous measures to improve the management system, involve employees, and cooperate with suppliers to ensure the best possible environmental performance.
